[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Coupang has suspended sales of a Japanese jelly product containing cannabis extract after it appeared on its open marketplace, sparking controversy.

According to the retail industry on January 18, the jelly, which contains cannabinol (CBN)—a substance banned in South Korea—was listed by an individual seller rather than being directly sold by Coupang.

Coupang instructs its marketplace sellers that products containing drugs, psychotropic substances, cannabis, or hallucinogens are prohibited under the Narcotics Control Act, specifically citing CBN as an example. However, similar incidents have occurred in the past, as the platform primarily relies on monitoring and post-listing removal of prohibited products.

Upon confirming the listing, Coupang immediately removed the product from sale.
