[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Japan has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into steel products imported from South Korea and China, following complaints from domestic manufacturers.
According to Kyodo News on August 13, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry launched the probe after four Japanese companies, including Nippon Steel and Kobe Steel, filed damage reports.
The products under investigation are hot-dip galvanized steel sheets and strips, commonly used in guardrails and residential construction materials. The investigation is expected to conclude within one year.
This move follows a similar investigation launched in July into nickel-based stainless cold-rolled steel sheets and strips from China and Taiwan. If the inquiry determines that these imports are being sold in Japan at prices lower than in their home markets, causing harm to domestic industries, Japan may impose anti-dumping duties to offset the price gap.
