[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, has postponed his planned visit to South Korea, which had been scheduled for June 14–15.
According to OpenAI and industry sources on June 12, Altman’s broader Asia trip, including South Korea, has been delayed due to personal reasons. No further details regarding the postponement or a revised schedule have been disclosed.
OpenAI said in a statement that Altman had been looking forward to the visit and expressed regret over being unable to proceed with the planned engagements. The company added that it hopes to reschedule the trip and visit South Korea in the near future.
During the visit, Altman had been expected to meet with executives from major Korean companies, including Samsung Electronics, Kakao, and Naver.
He was also scheduled to attend a “DX Insight Talk” event at Samsung Electronics’ Digital City and hold meetings with top executives, including Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun and President Roh Tae-moon.
In addition, Altman had planned to visit Kakao’s Pangyo office to discuss potential cooperation with CEO Chung Shin-a, while a separate meeting with Naver had also been arranged.
