[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Microsoft will invest about $ 2.9 billion over the next two years to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) business in Japan, the Nikkei reported on the 9th (local time).
Nikkei said in an interview with Microsoft President Brad Smith that it will announce the plan soon when Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visits the U.S.
According to reports, Microsoft will introduce advanced AI semiconductors to two existing facilities in eastern and western Japan under its largest plan to invest in Japan.
It also plans to present an AI-related retraining program for 3 million employees over three years in Japan and establish a new research institute in Tokyo for robotics and AI research and development.
