[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] The European Union (EU) is launching an investigation into Shein, the leading online fast fashion platform in C-commerce, to examine potential violations of consumer protection regulations.

According to AFP, sources revealed that the European Commission is expected to announce the official commencement of the investigation on the 7th.

Shein, founded in China in 2012, has faced accusations of failing to make sufficient efforts to prevent the sale of products that do not meet European standards. The EU Commission had sent a questionnaire to Shein regarding this matter back in June of last year.

The investigation is likely to be conducted in cooperation with the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPCN), which includes consumer protection authorities from all 27 EU member states.

If the investigation confirms the allegations, Shein could face penalties, including fines. The European Commission declined to comment on the ongoing investigation when contacted by AFP.
