[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, June 16 — Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that passengers will no longer be charged an additional base fare if they re-enter the subway within 15 minutes at the same station, starting June 20.

Under the new policy, re-entry within 15 minutes will be treated as a transfer, allowing passengers to avoid paying the base fare twice in cases such as restroom use or accidental exits.

The ministry estimates the measure will benefit passengers in about 6.04 million cases annually, saving roughly 5.6 billion won ($4 million) in transportation costs.

The system will apply to sections of the metropolitan subway network operated by Korea Railroad Corporation, including parts of Lines 1, 3 and 4, as well as the Suin–Bundang, Gyeongui–Jungang, Gyeonggang and Seohae lines.

However, privately operated lines such as Airport Railroad, Shinbundang Line and Gimpo Goldline, along with some sections of Line 7 and Incheon Lines 1 and 2, will be excluded.
