[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The Vietnamese government will prohibit the production, sale, and use of e-cigarettes starting next year, a move that requires caution from international visitors, including South Korean tourists.

On December 1 (local time), local media such as VN Express reported that the Vietnamese National Assembly had approved a resolution to broadly ban e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. The resolution was passed with the support of 96% of attending legislators.

Key Measures in the Ban

The resolution includes a ban on the production, sale, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes, aimed at protecting public health. The government is tasked with developing and implementing specific measures to enforce the ban effectively.

The National Assembly also emphasized the importance of raising awareness, particularly among the younger generation, about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes.

Background of the Decision

This development follows a proposal by Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan last month. Addressing the National Assembly on November 11, the minister argued that e-cigarettes pose significant health risks and called for amendments to the law to include the prohibition.

As the new policy comes into effect, travelers to Vietnam should be mindful of these changes to avoid legal issues.
