[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Kakao is accelerating its separation from services based on the Daum platform as it prepares to sell the portal business.
According to the IT industry on March 10, Kakao Games plans to terminate its PC game channeling service on Daum Games within the first half of the year.
Game channeling allows users to log into external games through a platform without the platform directly publishing the titles. Kakao Games has offered access to several PC games through the Daum platform.
With the service termination, channeling support for games including Lost Saga, Audition, and EOS will end.
Earlier, Kakao also announced that Kakao TV, the video platform previously operated through Daum, will shut down on June 30.
Backup of existing videos began on March 9, and users will be able to download their content until the service closes. Starting June 1, the platform will stop allowing the creation of new channels and uploads of video-on-demand (VOD) content.
