[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] On October 8, Taiwan's Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) announced that it is constructing the world's largest factory for manufacturing NVIDIA's GB200 chips, a leading product in the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market.

During Foxconn's annual Tech Day event held in Taipei, Benjamin Ting, Senior Vice President of Foxconn's Cloud Solutions Division, emphasized the partnership between Foxconn and NVIDIA.

The GB200 is a new AI chip produced by NVIDIA using the Blackwell architecture. Blackwell is the latest chip designed to succeed NVIDIA's existing AI chips, such as the H100 and H200 (Hopper), and is set to enter mass production in Q4. This chip will support AI training for models that can scale up to 10 trillion parameters and real-time inference for large language models (LLM). It will be manufactured using the processes of Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest foundry for semiconductor manufacturing.

NVIDIA plans to offer the GB200 computing unit, which combines 72 Blackwell GPUs with 36 of its own Grace central processing units (CPUs), branded as "GB200 NVL72." NVIDIA previously stated that this configuration would provide up to 30 times the performance improvement over the H100 in large language models (LLMs).
