[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] As of the end of last year, Google saw the largest increase in user numbers among apps, while YouTube maintained its position as the most-used app, according to data released on Sunday by IGAWorks' Mobile Index.

In December 2023, Google had the highest month-over-month growth in monthly active users (MAU), reaching 39,105,839 users, an increase of 2,287,403 from the previous month, representing a growth rate of 6.21%.

Netflix ranked second in user growth, with an additional 1,387,936 users during the same period. Google had also led user growth in November, adding 2,443,857 new users.

In terms of app usage time last month, YouTube saw the most significant increase, followed by Instagram, Naver, KakaoTalk, and TikTok Lite.

For overall MAU, YouTube remained the most-used app in December, recording 46,829,531 users. KakaoTalk and Naver followed with 45,500,198 and 43,770,602 users, respectively.

Coupang was the only shopping app to make the top 10, ranking sixth with 32,016,534 users.

In terms of new installs, the Chinese app Temu ranked first, with 1,177,405 downloads in December. It was followed by Instagram (825,982 downloads) and TikTok Lite (818,861 downloads).

Despite Temu's high number of new installations, Mobile Index noted that its influence in the Korean market remains minimal. According to a report released last month, Temu's monthly churn rate in 2023 ranged from 37% to 50%, highlighting challenges in user retention.
