[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] KakaoTalk stops the emoji service that can be used free of charge in its own app.

According to the industry on the 31st, Kakao recently decided to eliminate the free emoji function in KakaoTalk.

Kakao has reduced the number of basic emojis from 116 to 34 in the previous 10.5.0 version update, and will also shut down the remaining 34 emoji services.

However, you can use the built-in emoji function of Galaxy and iPhone.

This measure is expected to have a positive effect on improving the profitability of KakaoTalk's paid emoticon business.

In the third quarter of last year, sales of Talk Biz, a business related to Kakao Talk, reached 518 billion won, accounting for nearly half of Kakao's total platform sales (1.29 trillion won).
