[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LS Cable & System has completed the construction of an additional ultra-high-pressure cable production plant in Donghae-si, Gangwon-do.
On the 2nd, LS Cable & System completed four undersea buildings and held the completion ceremony on the same day. About 100 officials attended the event, including LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-eun, LS CEO Myung No-hyun and LS Cable CEO Koo Bon-kyu.
The plant is the only one in Korea and Asia's largest ultra-high-pressure direct current transmission (HVDC) submarine cable plant. Construction began in July 2021 and a total of 190 billion won has been invested. It has a total floor area of 34,816㎡ (about 15,532 pyeong), including a 172m high-rise production tower (VCV Tower, vertical continuous extrusion system).
"Under the carbon-neutral policy, a trillions of won ultra-high-pressure direct current transmission project is being promoted in Europe," the company said. "We have been preparing to expand our business through preemptive investments such as the expansion of the new plant and the acquisition of KT Submarin."
LS Cable & System has built Korea's first underwater cable plant in Donghae City in 2008 and has invested about 700 billion won to strengthen its underwater business capacity. In addition, with the recent acquisition of a stake in KT Submarine, a submarine optical cable construction company, expectations are growing for the expansion of the construction business as well as cable supply.
