[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Electronics announced on Sunday the launch of its new audio content service, LG Radio Plus, integrated into its proprietary smart TV platform, webOS. This service allows users to stream and enjoy radio and podcast content directly on LG smart TVs.

LG Radio Plus is an ad-supported platform offering free access to audio content. Building on its existing free ad-supported streaming TV service, LG Channels, the company aims to enhance its competitive edge in the smart TV content and advertising market through the introduction of LG Radio Plus.

In partnership with global audio content provider Radioline, LG has rolled out the service in South Korea and the United States. In Korea, the platform provides over 440 channels, including live radio and music broadcasts. U.S. users have access to more than 14,500 popular local channels.

The service is available on TVs equipped with webOS 6.0 or later. Users can easily access LG Radio Plus via the webOS home screen or voice commands on their remote control. Upon first use, the service automatically plays the most popular channel to assist users in discovering content. Subsequent launches will resume playback from the last channel listened to, minimizing browsing time.

LG Electronics plans to expand the service to its LG ThinQ smart home platform, allowing LG XBOOM audio products to support LG Radio Plus.

The launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of the webOS platform, which achieved fourfold revenue growth since 2021, surpassing KRW 1 trillion (approximately USD 765 million).

According to market research firm Omdia, the smart TV platform advertising market is projected to grow from $6.6 billion in 2024 to $13.4 billion by 2029. In response to this rapid market growth, LG Electronics continues to innovate within the webOS ecosystem to solidify its position as a leader in the smart TV industry.
