[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplies semiconductor substrates for AI PC. It is a substrate used in ARM-based next-generation AI semiconductors and has taken the lead in the AI PC market, which is expected to expand in earnest from this year.

According to the industry on the 9th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has recently started mass production of semiconductor substrates for AI PC. The company has secured the initial target yield and passed the customer performance evaluation to deliver the semiconductor substrate alone.

Although no specific customers have been identified, it has been identified as a global semiconductor company preparing to tap into the AI PC market. It is set to launch ARM-based high-performance AI semiconductors that can compute up to 45 trillion times per second, and the company's semiconductor will be combined with Samsung Electro-Mechanics substrates to implement AI functions in laptops and tablets. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is supplying key components of 'on-device AI', which has become a hot topic recently.

AI PC is a market where full-fledged growth is drawing attention from this year. Until now, AI services have been carried out through data centers, high-performance computing (HPC) and servers. In line with on-device AI trends that want to implement AI at the level of devices, global semiconductor companies such as Intel, AMD and Qualcomm are rushing to commercialize AI PC.
