[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics is pushing for cooperation in semiconductors for vehicles with BMW, a global automaker.
According to the industry on the 2nd, the System LSI division, which is in charge of circuit design within Samsung Electronics' device solution (DS) division, recently delivered prototypes of semiconductors for vehicles at the request of BMW, resulting in cooperation and information sharing between the two companies.
In the semiconductor industry, Samsung Electronics is expected to launch a chip development project this year, which is used to provide information on the external and indoor environment to drivers and passengers in BMW vehicles.
This is the first time that cooperation in semiconductors for vehicles between Samsung Electronics and BMW has been known externally. Samsung Electronics also mentioned in its earnings presentation for the fourth quarter of 2022 on the 31st of last month, "In the case of automotive system-on-chip (SoC), we will supply chip samples to European premium carmakers in a timely manner."
If cooperative development between BMW and Samsung Electronics, the world's largest automaker, leads to mass production and delivery, Samsung will have an opportunity to make a "quantum jump" in the field of automotive semiconductors.
