[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Maeil Dairy has voluntarily recalled over 10,000 units of its Original Maeil Milk (Sterilized) due to contamination with cleaning solution during the manufacturing process.

According to industry sources on December 15, Maeil Dairy initiated the recall of approximately 10,000 units of its 200ml "Original Maeil Milk" sterilized product as of this morning. The affected products were manufactured at Maeil Dairy's Gwangju factory and have a consumption deadline of February 16, 2025.

The issue came to light on December 12 when some employees at Hyundai Motor's research center, who had consumed the product during their meal service, reported experiencing abdominal pain. Investigations confirmed that a small amount of cleaning solution had inadvertently mixed into a limited batch of the product due to an error during equipment cleaning.

Maeil Dairy estimates that the total number of contaminated units is between 30 and 50, as the error occurred during a brief one-second window on the production line. A company representative stated, "The affected volume is believed to be no more than 50 units. Employees who consumed the product received medical care and have since returned home to rest."

The company has already recalled over 10,000 units and continues to collect additional products. It also confirmed that other products from the same production line have been tested and found to be safe.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has issued a recall and sales suspension for the affected products, which were manufactured on September 19 with a consumption deadline of February 16, 2025.
