Korean Air Completes Acquisition of Asiana Airlines, Becomes Subsidiary After 4 Years

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Korean Air has officially acquired Asiana Airlines, nearly four years after announcing its decision to do so on November 16, 2020.

Today (December 12), Korean Air acquired 131,578,947 newly issued shares of Asiana Airlines, representing a 63.88% stake. This makes Asiana Airlines a subsidiary of Korean Air.

Asiana Airlines plans to hold an extraordinary general meeting on January 16, 2025, to appoint a new board of directors. Korean Air intends to merge with Asiana Airlines after a preparation period of approximately two years.

Additionally, Korean Air will continue preparations to integrate the mileage programs of both airlines.
