[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Life Vice President Kim Dong-won (photo), the second son of Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-yeon, was promoted to president nine years after joining the company. At the same time, the Galleria division, headed by its third son, Kim Dong-sun, head of Hanwha Solution's strategy division, has been spun off, making the "third-generation management" structure within Hanwha Group more clear.
According to the insurance industry on the 13th, Hanwha Life Insurance promoted Kim Dong-won, Chief Digital Officer (CDO·), to President and Chief Global Officer (CGO) on the 6th. CEO Yeo Seung-ju oversees the company's management as it is.
President Kim, who has led Hanwha Life's digital innovation as an CDO, will be in charge of global business strategies. Hanwha Life Insurance operates local subsidiaries in three countries: Vietnam, Indonesia, and China.
Born in 1985, Kim graduated from St. Paul High School and Yale University's Department of East Asian Studies, joined Hanwha L&C, the group's building materials company, in March 2014, and moved to deputy head of Hanwha Life Insurance's innovation office the following year. Since then, he has served as managing director of the Digital Innovation Office, general manager of overseas affairs and future innovation, and chief digital strategy officer (CDSO) and head of strategy division.
Hanwha Solution passed the agenda for the division of Galleria at its regular shareholders' meeting. With the split, some predict that Kim Dong-sun, head of Hanwha Solution's Galleria division's strategy division, and Hanwha Hotel & Resort's executive director, will take the lead in management in earnest. The group's personnel reshuffle and reorganization is also expected to share the roles between the three generations of owners, with Chairman Kim's eldest son, Hanwha Solution Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan in charge of the group's flagship projects, including solar, petrochemical and defense, President Kim Dong-won in charge of the financial sector and head of headquarters Kim Dong-sun in charge of the hotel resort distribution business.
