Earlier, LG U+ reported on its website on the 10th of last month that personal information of 180,000 customers was leaked. As a result, the number of people affected by LG U+'s personal information leakage has increased to 290,000. The notice is believed to have been delayed as the 110,000 people confirmed this time were not immediately identified as their users.
The company was first aware of the personal information leakage on the 2nd of last month, and the cyber investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Personal Information Protection Committee, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) are investigating the details of the leak and compliance with the obligation to take safety measures.
LG U+ explained, "The leaked information varies from person to person and does not include financial-related information," adding, "We are notifying the leaked individual by text or e-mail."
We are currently actively cooperating with investigative agencies and the government's investigations to find out the timing and circumstances of personal information leakage, he said. "We will do our best to strengthen the monitoring system and come up with measures to prevent the same thing from happening again."
