[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Coupang Play has clarified that the ongoing police investigation into an employee accused of stealing business documents related to sports broadcasting is not an investigation into the company itself.

On December 11, Coupang Play released a statement emphasizing that the case is about an individual employee’s alleged actions and that the company itself is not the subject of a search. "The search was not conducted at the company, but rather in relation to an employee's personal allegations," the statement said.

According to industry reports, the Southern Gyeonggi Police Department executed a search on employee A, a former Naver employee, who is under investigation for violating the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. A complaint was filed alleging that A stole confidential business information from Naver when transitioning to Coupang Play last year.

After receiving the complaint, the police reportedly filed criminal charges against A and have expanded their investigation, including a search of A's residence.
