[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Energy Solution will produce 'Tesla Battery' in Ochang as early as August

LG Energy Solution announced that it plans to mass-produce next-generation 4680 cylindrical batteries (diameter 46mm, length 80mm) as early as August this year. The 4680 battery is expected to be supplied to Tesla, an American electric car company.

Kim Dong-myung, president of LG Energy Solutions, met with reporters before attending the board of directors and general meeting of the Korea Battery Industry Association held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 15th.

Asked by reporters about plans to produce next-generation batteries, CEO Kim said, "We will first start mass-producing (4680 cylindrical battery) in South Korea in the second half of the year."

In addition, President Kim predicted that the time of mass production of low and medium-priced lithium phosphate iron (LFP) batteries will be around the second half of 2025.

He also said the HLI Green Power Battery Cell Plant, which will be built in Indonesia in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group, will begin operation in April. HLI Green Power is a joint venture established by Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solutions with a 50% stake and invested about $ 1.1 billion (about 1.5,000 trillion won).
