[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 13th that its consolidated operating profit last year, including Korea Express, was KRW 1.2916 trillion, down 22.4% from the previous year.
Sales fell 3.5% to 29.235 trillion won, while net profit fell 30.3% to 559.5 billion won.
Excluding Korea Express, CJ CheilJedang's sales fell 4.7% to 17.89 trillion won last year, while its operating profit fell 35.4% to 819.5 billion won.
Except for Korea Express, CJ CheilJedang's sales fell 7.2% to 4.3857 trillion won in the fourth quarter of last year, but its operating profit rose 28% to 157.9 billion won, the first increase in five quarters.
By sector, the food business saw its sales rise 1.4 percent to 11.2644 trillion won and operating profit rise 4.9 percent to 654.6 billion won last year.
In particular, overseas food business sales surpassed domestic sales for the first time in the fourth quarter of last year.
In North America, Bibigo dumplings and Schwans' flagship pizza brand, "Red Baron," further consolidated its No. 1 position, while sales of frozen chicken and home-cooked rice grew 19% and 15%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
In Europe, the company expanded its business to France and Sweden in addition to the U.K. and Germany, while in Australia, sales of Bibigo products were strong, focusing on "Ulworth," the largest discount store.
Bio business sales are 3.4862 trillion won and operating profit is 68.9 billion won.
