[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] The process to appoint a new CEO of Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), which had been underway since late last year, has been reset.

According to KOGAS on the 19th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) notified the company’s Executive Recommendation Committee on the same day to reopen the recruitment process for the CEO position.

KOGAS had previously announced an open call for a new CEO on November 13 last year and narrowed down the candidates to five finalists after document screening and interviews. The final shortlist reportedly included former Saenuri Party lawmaker Lee In-gi and four candidates with backgrounds at Korea Gas Corporation.

However, MOTIE concluded that none of the five candidates were suitable to lead the company.

Under the appointment procedure, the Executive Recommendation Committee proposes candidates, who are then subject to government review before the President makes the final appointment. With MOTIE determining the shortlisted candidates to be unqualified, KOGAS is expected to move forward with a new round of applications.

Meanwhile, the KOGAS labor union, which had opposed all five finalists, issued a statement welcoming the government’s decision.
