[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Analysts say Kakao, which has decided to separate its portal "Daum" into an in-house independent company (CIC), is ultimately considering spin-off or sale.
This is because the company is in the process of completely separating the portal business from the headquarters about eight years after removing 'Daum' by changing its name from 'DaumKakao' to 'Kakao' in 2015.
Kakao announced on the 4th, "We decided to operate the next business division as CIC to focus more on the value of the next service as a search and content distribution platform and produce results."
CIC is a company that operates in the form of an in-house venture within a company. The morphology exists in the form of an in-house organization, not a spin-off. Hwang Yoo-ji, the current head of the next business division, will head the next CIC.
Kakao said it decided to operate its next business as a CIC in order to focus more on the next service value and achieve results as a search and content distribution platform. Its strategy is to establish an organizational system that enables rapid and independent decision-making to establish goals for the next service and enhance service competitiveness.
Daum CIC explained that it plans to pave the way for a leap forward, focusing on core businesses such as search, media, and community services. The goal is to provide new experiences to users and become a technology-leading service by launching new services using AI in line with the rapidly changing trend.
