[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Controversy over 'distortion' arose after Coupang announced that its sales commission rate was lower than that of e-commerce companies run by large corporations and compared the commission rates of 11th Street and others.

11th Street announced on the 16th that it reported Coupang to the Fair Trade Commission for violating the Display Advertising Act and the Electronic Commerce Act.

Market research firm Euromonitor said that the data that Coupang presented as 4% of Coupang and 5% of Shinsegae are not its official data.

Coupang posted a rebuttal on its newsroom on the 3rd of this month after a media outlet reported that "Coupang was taking 45% of the commission from the seller."

"We express strong regret over media reports that protect chaebol distributors with false facts and disparage Coupang's innovation," Coupang said at the time. "Coupang fees are at the lowest level in the industry, only up to 10.9%."

In order to support the company's claim, it compared and announced the largest sales commission rate of other e-commerce companies such as SK 11st (20%) and Shinsegae Group's Gmarket and Auction (15%).
