[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Conflicts between online video service (OTT) "Watcha" and LG Uplus have been rising to the surface since the sale negotiations broke down.

Watcha suspects that LG Uplus has taken over "technology" beyond just "design copying," while LG Uplus countered that Watcha is "spreading false information."

According to Yonhap News on the 20th, Watcha claimed that the content recommendation and evaluation service 'U + TV Moa' being tested by LG Uplus copied Watchapedia. Watchapedia is a movie recommendation and evaluation platform launched by the company in 2011 under the name "Watcha."

"It goes beyond the level similar to Watchapedia in that it has a content star rating," the company said. "We have copied feature names such as the overall service composition and element, the shape of the button icon, and 'I miss you' deliberately ignoring the spacing."

"LG Uplus has stolen key technologies, service operation know-how and business secrets under the pretext of long-term investment reviews," he said. "It has abruptly scrapped its investment promises and is strengthening its service by utilizing technologies that are suspected to have acquired from Watcha."

Watcha submitted 'video recommendation technology' and 'OTT service design data' for technology verification at the time of the sale negotiations, and it is likely that LG U+ formed a recommended algorithm for 'U+TV Moa' based on this.

"We will take all measures to prevent the repetition of predatory technology theft by large companies," a company official said. "We cannot help but ask for legal and moral responsibility."
