[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] A candidate for the fourth mobile carrier has been confirmed to break the monopoly of the three telecommunication companies.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 19th that after closing applications for the 26.5 to 27.3GHz band for mobile communication (IMT) (800MHz width, anchor band 700MHz band 20MHz width), three corporations, including Sejong Telecom, Stage X and My Mobile Consortium, applied for frequency allocation nationwide.

StageX is a corporation created by Stage Five, which runs the MVNO business, in collaboration with Shinhan Investment & Securities. Over the next three years, we plan to build more than 6,000 base stations in 90 hotspots and introduce business-to-business transactions (B2B) such as smart hospitals and realistic contents, and business-to-consumer (B2C) services.

Sejong Telecom is expected to use the 28GHz frequency for B2B. Sejong Telecom has experience in operating Al Ddeul Phone and Eum 5G (5G specialized network).

The future mobile consortium 'My Mobile', which has long been showing its intention to challenge the fourth mobile carrier, has also succeeded in applying for allocation. Earlier, My Mobile visited the Ministry of Science and ICT building at 1 p.m. on the day, but had difficulty applying due to some document problems regarding the labeling of applicants for bidding guarantee insurance. However, before the application deadline, a new bid guarantee insurance was issued in the name of the consortium and the application document was officially accepted.

As the application for frequency allocation is closed, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to review whether there are reasons for disqualification under the Radio Wave Act and the Telecommunications Business Act, and start the frequency auction after notifying them of their eligibility.
