[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The National Tax Service (NTS) has initiated a tax audit of SK Telecom, South Korea's leading telecommunications provider.

According to industry sources on the 16th, officials from the Seoul Regional Tax Office's Investigation Bureau 4 conducted an on-site investigation at SK Telecom's headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul, securing relevant documents.

The Investigation Bureau 4 is responsible for ad-hoc and special audits, leading to speculation that this may be a special tax audit rather than a routine one.

The bureau has recently been involved in probes concerning irregularities tied to the heads of major corporations, including CJ CheilJedang.
