[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Eco-Promaterials, headquartered in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, has expanded its precursor raw material production plant.
Ecopromaterials, a subsidiary of Ecopro, a secondary battery company, held a ceremony to mark the completion of the second plant of the RMP (Sulphide Process) in the Yeongil Bay Industrial Complex in Pohang on the 8th and began operation.
Eco-Promaterials is a company that manufactures high-nickel precursor materials and precursors, one of the key materials for secondary battery cathode materials.
The RMP 2 plant produces nickel, cobalt, and manganese, the key raw materials necessary for the production process of high-capacity high-nickel anode materials.
Eco-Promaterials has been testing and operating the RMP 2 plant with a total floor area of 26,565㎡ in April at a cost of 140 billion won.
The completion of the plant will secure an additional precursor production capacity of 15,000 tons of nickel, 2,400 tons of cobalt and 2,400 tons of manganese.
Combined with 10,000 tons of nickel, 2,000 tons of cobalt and 1,500 tons of manganese produced at the existing RMP 1 plant, the total production size will increase to 25,000 tons of nickel, 4,400 tons of cobalt and 3,900 tons of manganese.
Electrosphere is a key raw material that accounts for 60∼70% of the cost of bipolar materials.
In the meantime, more than 90% of domestic precursors have been imported from China.
Eco-Promaterials began mass-producing high-capacity high-nickel anode precursor for the first time in Korea in 2018 and currently has the largest precursor production capacity of 50,000 tons per year.
The company asked the Korea Exchange for a preliminary review to list on the KOSPI (stock market).
