[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Private equity firm MBK Partners is acquiring printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer FICT (formerly Fujitsu Interconnect Technologies) for approximately 100 billion yen (950 billion KRW).

According to foreign media reports and investment banking (IB) sources on Thursday, FICT is a PCB manufacturer specializing in high-density and high-speed data transmission technology. The company has also produced circuit boards for Japan’s supercomputers Fugaku and Kei.

As part of this transaction, MBK will acquire an 80% stake from investment fund Advantage Partners, which currently owns 100% of FICT, while U.S. semiconductor test equipment company FormFactor will acquire the remaining 20%.

FICT was previously a subsidiary of Fujitsu before being sold to Advantage Partners in 2020. As of the fiscal year ending March 2023, the company recorded annual sales of 30 billion yen and employed 980 staff members.

FormFactor, which uses FICT’s circuit boards as key components in its semiconductor test equipment, aims to expand its global customer base through this partnership.

MBK sees strong mid-term growth potential for FICT, driven by increasing demand from AI data centers.
