[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, June 8 — BGF Networks, which operates the CU convenience store parcel service, confirmed that a cyberattack resulted in a personal data breach affecting its users.
The company said an unidentified hacker gained unauthorized access to its system on June 4 and leaked customer information, including user IDs, passwords, names, dates of birth, gender, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.
BGF Networks stated that it immediately blocked the attack source and strengthened security measures, while launching an internal response team. It has also reported the incident to relevant authorities, including the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
The company added that passwords were encrypted but advised users to change them, particularly if the same credentials are used across multiple platforms.
BGF Networks noted that the breach affected only registered online members and did not include third-party recipient information entered during parcel shipments.
