[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, October 9 — The Bank of Korea (BOK) has faced more than 2,900 attempted cyberattacks over the past six years, according to data submitted to the National Assembly.

Rep. Chun Ha-ram of the Reform Party, a member of the parliamentary Strategy and Finance Committee, revealed that between 2020 and August 2025, the central bank detected a total of 2,927 attempted cyber intrusions.

Of these, 24 were successful breaches, including 23 cases caused by phishing emails sent to employees. The remaining case involved a large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the Bank of Korea’s official website in late 2023.

The data underscores growing concerns about cybersecurity threats targeting financial institutions and critical infrastructure, prompting calls for stronger digital defense measures within Korea’s central banking system.
