[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LG Uplus will start 5G mobile communication service as early as the middle of this month with a frequency of 100㎒. It is highly likely that 5G download speed in Seoul will also exceed 1Gbps due to the utilization of 20㎒ (3.40~3.42㎓) allocated by the government last year. As the three mobile carriers are launching 5G services with the same frequency width (100㎒), quality improvement and speed competition are expected to ignite.
According to the industry on the 4th, the Ministry of Science and ICT has completed the completion inspection of 15,000 new radio stations, which is an additional allocation condition for LG Uplus 20㎒, and is conducting detailed implementation inspection procedures.
LG Uplus spent 519.2 billion won on facility investment (CAPEX) in the first quarter of this year alone and completed the network construction. As early as the middle of this month, when the implementation inspection is completed, 5G services will be provided at a frequency of 100㎒ across the country, including major urban areas such as Seoul and the metropolitan area. Frequency bandwidth can be increased from 80㎒ to 100㎒ by updating existing 5G base station equipment (AAU) software (SW) without adding a separate hardware (HW) device. Currently, we have completed the SW update of major equipment.
In Seoul, where it is a battleground, LG Uplus' communication speed exceeds 1Gbps, and it is expected that it will compete on par with its competitors. Based on the results of the mobile communication quality evaluation released by the government last year, the average download transmission speed of LG Uplus 5G in Seoul is likely to exceed 1Gbps.
It is highly likely that 5G speed will exceed 1Gbps for the first time among the three mobile carriers in Seoul, which has the largest number of subscribers. It is likely to work favorably in terms of speed quality competition and marketing with competitors. SK Telecom recorded 5G speed of 994.92Mbps in Seoul last year. As SK Telecom also made additional investments during the same period, this year's communication quality evaluation is expected to be a match.
