[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of South Korea has launched an investigation into the recent outage affecting some overseas services for LG Uplus, including ChatGPT, League of Legends (LoL), Discord, and Namuwiki. The investigation will focus on the cause of the disruption, and the ministry has stated that it will also consider compensation options for affected users.

The disruption occurred from around 8 p.m. on Friday to 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, lasting over 15 hours. The ministry indicated that the investigation will examine the underlying causes of the service interruption and the potential for compensating affected customers.

An official from the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "We are investigating the cause of the outage and will also assess the possibility of compensation."

LG Uplus explained that the outage was due to traffic issues related to the Internet intermediary provider’s network, which affected access to certain overseas services. The company noted that it would review compensation plans after thoroughly investigating the cause of the incident.

A spokesperson from LG Uplus added, "We will closely examine the cause of the issue and decide on compensation afterward."

According to the terms of service of major telecom providers, if high-speed internet or mobile services are interrupted for more than two hours consecutively, customers can claim compensation of up to 10 times the service charges for the duration of the outage.
