Dongkuk Steel & CM, direct employment of 1,000 in-house subcontracts

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Dongkuk Steel and Dongguk CM, the steel business corporations of Dongkuk Steel Group, held a "Special Labor-Management Agreement on the Operation of Production Organization" event with representatives of labor and management attending on the 6th and finally agreed to hire in-house subcontractors directly.

Under the agreement, Dongkuk Steel Mill and Dongguk CM will hire some 1,000 in-house subcontractors as of Jan. 1 next year after a special hiring process.

The agreement is the result of labor and management discussing sustainable management directions together, the group explained. Both labor and management judged that it is essential to advance the operation of production organizations to cope with uncertain business conditions.

The two companies plan to provide activities to promote belonging, education programs and unity events so that direct employees can adapt to the new environment.

Labor and management of Dongkuk Steel Group have been negotiating wages without dispute for 30 years.
