[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Geoje, South Korea – November 27, 2025 — Police authorities and the Ministry of Employment and Labor have carried out a search and seizure operation at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje shipyard in connection with a fatal workplace accident that occurred last month, according to recent reports.

The operation, involving more than 40 agents, aimed to secure evidence related to the accident, which occurred on October 17. A subcontracted worker in his 60s was killed after a structural housing unit collapsed while being lifted with a crane.

The joint police and labor-ministry action reflects ongoing investigations under occupational safety and criminal liability frameworks, as both authorities seek to clarify the causes and determine whether safety regulations or negligence contributed to the fatality.

Hanwha Ocean has previously halted operations at the site, expressed condolences, and pledged full cooperation with the authorities while reviewing its safety and management

This search marks the latest development in a series of incidents placing heightened scrutiny on industrial safety practices within the Korean shipbuilding sector.
