Kim Kwang-hyun, Chief Data & Content Officer of Naver, speaks at a media roundtable held on May 28.

[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Naver announced plans to invest KRW 1 trillion over the next five years to build a proprietary content ecosystem as part of its strategy to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) competitiveness.

The company revealed the initiative on May 28 during a media roundtable in Seoul, where senior executives outlined its “Data and Content Strategy for the AI Era.” Naver emphasized that the focus of AI competition is shifting from model performance to data quality and service capabilities.

As part of the plan, Naver will launch a monthly program called “Naver Mate” starting next month, engaging approximately 3,000 participants to expand the usage of its AI briefing services and enrich its content base.

Naver aims to replicate the success of global platforms that have scaled through content ecosystems, highlighting the importance of high-quality data generated by creators and users.

The company said the investment will support the discovery and development of creators, as well as broader initiatives to strengthen its AI-driven services and platform competitiveness.
