[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK Telecom announced on the 24th that it has signed a cooperative contract with US aircraft manufacturer Joby Aviation (Jovi) for demonstration and commercialization of urban air transportation (UAM).

The two companies will verify the operation according to the flight scenario with the "S4" aircraft manufactured by Jovi in the first stage of the Korean Urban Air Traffic Demonstration Project (K-UAM Grand Challenge), which will be held at the National Flight Performance Test Center in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do next year.

In particular, it will verify the communication quality of 4G mobile communication (4G) and 5G mobile communication (5G) specialized commercial networks above 300∼600m, an altitude of urban air traffic established by SK Telecom, and to that end, Joby will also dispatch technical personnel to Korea.

SK Telecom introduced that it is meaningful in that it has prepared a detailed plan to secure gases that have passed global certification such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Administration (EASA). Earlier, SK Telecom strategically invested $100 million (about 133.6 billion won) in Jobi in June, securing the right to exclusively use the Jovi gas in the Korean market.
