[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Samsung Heavy Industries is on the verge of securing a massive contract worth approximately 1.9 trillion KRW to build 9 shuttle tankers for the Brazilian shipping company Transpetro, a subsidiary of Petrobras, Brazil's largest corporation.

According to industry sources and the global shipping publication TradeWinds, Samsung Heavy Industries is in the final stages of winning a contract to build 9 Suezmax-class (150,000 DWT) shuttle tankers for Transpetro. The price per vessel is $146.5 million (about 2.12 trillion KRW), bringing the total value of the contract to about 1.9 trillion KRW.

The tankers are scheduled for delivery in 2027 (2 vessels) and 2028 (7 vessels). A shuttle tanker is a specialized vessel used for transporting crude oil produced at offshore oil rigs to onshore storage facilities. The Suezmax-class refers to the largest ship size capable of passing through the Suez Canal.

Initially, it was expected that this contract would be divided between Samsung Heavy Industries and its Chinese competitors. However, with the reemergence of Donald Trump and the intensification of U.S. efforts to counter China, the likelihood of Samsung securing the full order has significantly increased.
