[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] A worker in his 40s was killed by a battery while working at Kia's Sohari plant in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province. The police confirmed that the worker used a temporary lift and are investigating its connection to the accident.

According to Gwangmyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 6th, A (49) was laid under a battery weighing about 500㎏ while working on a car battery replacement at the assembly training center of Kia Autoland's Gwangmyeong plant at around 9:59 a.m.

A was taken to a hospital by rescue workers who were reported and dispatched, but eventually died. At the time of the accident, A was found to have entered the lower part of the vehicle while disassembling the vehicle after completing the new car test.

The police believe that A was working using a simple lift rather than a formal lift installed for the process, and are investigating the connection to the accident. At that time, Mr. A was working with one worker. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the worker.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor is investigating Kia Motors' violation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
