[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electro-Mechanics will establish a camera module production base for electric devices (automobile electrical and electronic components) in Mexico. The strategy is to actively target major automakers in North America, including Tesla, through the new plant in Mexico.

According to News 1 on the 14th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150) has decided to establish a Mexican production corporation and is coordinating detailed plans. The capital is 4.93634 billion won, which is expected to be established in 2024.

Recruitment of new production companies is also being prepared.

Currently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has seven production corporations in Korea (Suwon, Busan, Sejong), two in China, Vietnam and the Philippines. Among them, camera modules are manufactured in China and Vietnam.

The new Mexican corporation plans to manufacture camera modules for battlefields and is expected to be supplied to electric vehicle makers in North America. The Mexican plant is believed to have been selected in consideration of access to major North American customers. North America is a key market where major global automakers such as Tesla, Ford and GM are located.
