[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SPC Chairman Huh Young-in will eventually be called to the parliamentary audit office in connection with the death of a worker in his 50s at an Shany bakery plant affiliated with SPC in August.

The National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee held a plenary session on the 19th and adopted Chairman Huh, DL Group Chairman Lee Hae-wook and Coupang CLS CEO Hong Yong-joon as witnesses to the comprehensive audit by the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 26th.

The Environment and Labor Committee will question Chairman Huh on who is responsible for a series of serious accidents during a comprehensive audit by the Ministry of Labor.

Prior to the accident at the Shany baking plant, a female worker in her 20s died in October last year after being caught while mixing sandwich sauce at the SPL Pyeongtaek plant, another affiliate of SPC Group, and another affiliate died in less than a year. At that time, SPC Group Chairman Huh Young-in apologized to the public and promised to prevent a recurrence.

The Environment and Labor Committee called Lee Kang-sup, head of the Shany, as a witness during a parliamentary audit of the Ministry of Labor on the 12th, but the opposition party has strongly insisted that Huh be a witness.

Chairman Huh has been accused by civic groups of violating the Serious Accident Punishment Act due to a series of deaths of workers.

In addition, Chairman Lee Hae-wook was selected as a witness related to a serious accident, such as the fall of a worker belonging to KCC, a subcontractor of DL E&C, at an apartment redevelopment site in Yeonje-gu, Busan, in August.

Hong, CEO of Coupang CLS, a logistics delivery subsidiary of Coupang, is expected to be questioned about the recent death of a delivery driver of a Coupang subcontractor at a villa in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province.
