[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Following Coupang’s large-scale personal data leak, an unauthorized payment incident has also occurred at e-commerce platform Gmarket.

According to financial authorities and retail industry sources on December 2, more than 60 Gmarket users filed complaints with the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) the same day, reporting unauthorized payments made on November 29.

The unauthorized charges were reportedly made using cards registered to “SmilePay,” Gmarket’s simple payment service, and were used to purchase gift cards.

Individual losses are estimated to be under 200,000 won per person.
