[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The labor union of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said in an internal notice on the 28th that it will start a partial strike for all union members for three hours on the 31st.

The union plans to launch a launching ceremony of the Central Committee on Countermeasures and go on strike from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

As a result, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' settlement without dispute was broken in a year. Labor and management of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries concluded collective bargaining last year after nine years since 2013. The union had already secured the right to strike with the decision to suspend the mediation of the National Labor Relations Commission and the approval of a majority of its members in order to join the general strike of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions last month.

Earlier, the possibility of a strike by the union was highlighted as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' tentative agreement on wage negotiations this year was rejected in a vote by its members on the 24th. Of the total union members (6,438), 5,967 (92.68% turnout) participated in the vote, with 1,854 (31.07%) in favor and 4,104 (68.78%) in opposition, overwhelmingly negative opinions.

The tentative agreement included raising the basic salary of 120,000 won (including an increase in salary), paying incentives, paying 3.5 million won in incentives and securing 2 billion won in special budget for the operation of resort facilities, but the union says the wage increase falls short of union members' expectations. Before the vote, some on-site organizations reportedly staged a rejection campaign, claiming that the basic salary increase was lower than that of their peers.
