[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] In 2017, Apple was suspected of degrading the performance of older iPhones to sell new products.

After updating the iPhone operating system, the performance was noticeably degraded.

Apple apologized at the time, but explained that it was not intended to induce the purchase of new products.

The following year, consumers filed a compensation suit against Apple, which spread to a massive lawsuit of 60,000 plaintiffs and about 12.7 billion won in claims in the first trial.

In February, the first trial court ruled against the plaintiff, saying, "There was not enough evidence submitted by consumers."

Since then, the plaintiff has conducted the second trial with only seven consumers, and the original ruling has been overturned in the appeals court.

The second trial court ruled that "Apple's headquarters should pay consumers 70,000 won in compensation per person."

Apple said in a statement, "We have never intentionally degraded performance or shortened the life of a product, and it will never happen again."

Apple's U.S. headquarters is expected to decide whether to appeal the Supreme Court.
