[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The Korea Exchange is considering a lawsuit against Meritz Securities and Hana Alternative Asset Management, citing the loss of funds related to the U.S. gas complex thermal power plant investment project in 2019.

According to the financial investment industry on the 8th, the exchange is considering a lawsuit against Meritz Securities and Hana Alternative Asset Management through law firms to determine whether investment funds related to power plants are illegal.

Meritz Securities and Hana Alternative Asset Management are fund vendors, and the exchange has invested $ 10 million (about 13 billion won). The fund is a mezzanine loan fund aimed at financing the 526-megawatt (MW) Frontera Gas Combined Thermal Power Plant in Texas. Meritz Securities recruited investors on a sell-down basis. However, the gas power plant business suffered a loss of due profit as it was hit by the COVID-19, and the fund was completely lost in August 2021.

Investors' lawsuits against Meritz Securities have continued as the Korea Exchange reviewed the lawsuit this time. Earlier, Lotte Insurance, KDB Life Insurance, and Kyowon Group, which invested in the project, filed a lawsuit.
