[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LG Display recently announced that it has started mass production of 'Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) panels for 17-inch foldable Notebooks'.

The new product has dramatically increased its life span by applying a Tandem OLED device structure that stacks two layers of organic light emitting layers. Tandem OLED, developed by LG Display for the first time in the industry in 2019, has a longer life span than existing products and has better luminance and durability.

The "in-Folding" structure, which folds the screen inward, lowers the curvature of the folding part to 3R (the curvature of a circle with a radius of 3㎜), creating a slim design that seems to be close to the top and bottom of the screen when folded in half.

QHD+ (2560×1920) resolution on a 17-inch large screen and OLED-specific infinite contrast ratio express clear high-definition content anytime, anywhere.

The new product can be used as a 17-inch portable monitor or tablet PC with a 4:3 screen ratio when the screen is fully unfolded. When folded in half, it can also be used as a 12.3-inch laptop with a 3:2 screen ratio. The high-sensitivity total touch solution allows you to touch both finger and pen.

Following the commercialization of OLED for 13.3-inch foldable notebooks for the first time in the industry in 2020, LG Display plans to expand its lineup to OLED for 17-inch foldable notebooks to expand the OLED market for IT in earnest.
