[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics is going to produce the next-generation AI chip of Groq, a startup in artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Groc's AI chip will be made in the 4nm (nanometer, 1nm is one billionth of a meter) process at the Samsung Taylor plant in the U.S., which is scheduled to be completed later this year.

This is the first time that a customer of the 4nm process at Samsung Electronics' Taylor plant has been unveiled, and Samsung Electronics is expected to expand its area based on the improved yield of the 4nm process.

The US semiconductor company Groq announced on the 15th (local time) that it has entered into a partnership with Samsung Electronics to produce next-generation AI chips. Groc is an American semiconductor design company founded in 2016 by former Google engineers and provides high-speed computing AI solutions.

Groq explained that AI accelerator chips are produced by applying 'SF4X', a 4nm process of Samsung Electronics Foundry. In particular, Samsung Electronics stated that it will invest $ 17 billion (about 23 trillion won) to be produced at the Taylor plant in the U.S., which is under construction this year.
