[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] Domestic industrial robot companies have filed an anti-dumping complaint against Japanese and Chinese-made industrial robots.

On Monday, HD Hyundai Robotics and four other domestic industrial robot manufacturers submitted an anti-dumping petition to the Trade Commission of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy on January 10, requesting an investigation into vertical articulated industrial robots with four or more axes produced by Japanese and Chinese companies.

These companies claim that Japanese and Chinese manufacturers are exporting robots at prices lower than the domestic distribution prices, resulting in losses. It is reported that the price of Chinese-made industrial robots is about 60% of the price of domestic robots.

An HD Hyundai Robotics representative stated, "Chinese companies, facing long-term domestic recession and growing inventory burdens, are likely engaging in aggressive low-price dumping into the Korean market. In the first half of this year, there will be large-scale bids in the automotive manufacturing sector, and the price competition from overseas companies is expected to intensify."

In the domestic industrial robot market, the number of imported units surged from 9,080 units in 2021 to an estimated 13,445 units in 2023. The market share of imported products also increased from 75% in 2021 to 81% in 2023. The Trade Commission is required to decide whether to initiate an investigation within two months after receiving the anti-dumping petition.
