[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s National Tax Service (NTS) has launched a special tax investigation into London Bagel Museum, a popular bagel café chain.

According to industry sources on Wednesday, the Seoul Regional Tax Office dispatched investigators to the company’s headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to secure tax-related documents from LBM Co., the operator of London Bagel Museum. The specific reason for the investigation has not been disclosed.

The probe comes as London Bagel Museum is already under scrutiny from the Ministry of Employment and Labor following allegations surrounding the death of a worker in their 20s due to overwork. The timing has drawn attention, as the tax investigation reportedly began while the company has been working to improve labor conditions in response to the controversy.

An official from the National Tax Service said, “We cannot confirm details regarding tax investigations involving individual taxpayers.”
